Generacion Suicida

This is one of my favorite new bands.  Generacion Suicida consists of four folks from LA and they play a very stripped down and melodic style of punk.  They kinda remind me of Dead Moon's raw and primitive approach mixed with the slightly more melodic tendencies of bands like X, Masshysteri and Gorilla Angreb.  You will be bobbing your head and swinging your hips to these songs.  Catchy is an understatement.  Support this band and buy their stuff.  This file contains their 5 song demo and a 2 song single.  You can find more fantastic music to stream/purchase at their BANDCAMP.

The Grumpies

I FREAKING LOVE THE GRUMPIES.  Hyper fast, toothachingly sweet and rocking as hell.  They play so fast that you almost miss the fact that the guitars are shredding so hard, they could put some buttrock 70's bands to shame.  I can't think of another band that makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.  They were from Alabama, this demo is from 1996 and these folks went on to play in other great bands like the Overnight Lows, Black Rainbow and Neon Piss.  Thanks to Greg for sharing and if anyone wants to upload the LP I'd love them for it.  Long Live Grumpies!

Amanaz

Here's an unusual post.  This is Africa, the sole album from Zambia's Amanaz.  It was released in 1975 and is a really interesting combination of western musical styles and African traditions.  You can hear rock, psych, folk, pop, Afrobeat and many other styles scattered about this record, but it is consistently groovy and the heart of the musicians glues all the disparate elements together very nicely.  "Sunday Morning" is one of the chillest jams I've ever heard, perfect for the first song you put on when you wake up to another godforsaken day.  Enjoy this excellent and unique album.

Death Side - Bet On The Possibility

Sorry that I've just been a tease, only giving you THIS EP from the mighty Death Side up til now.  It's just not right.  This is the original Burning Spirits and I personally don't think anyone else ever matched Death Side's power or focus.  Just dig into this fantastic and forceful LP and see/feel for yourself.

Siege - Drop Dead

Siege only had to record these 9 songs way back in 1984 and hardcore punk is still trying to catch up to what this band did.  You can't make and eat a sandwich in the time it takes to listen to this record and it's just not funny how ahead of their time they were.

SSWWAANNSS - FFIILLTTHH

You don't need any of my words to accompany these sounds.

Inquisition

100 posts!  As tribute, I offer this slab of EVIL.  It may not be the most menacing, the rawest, or the most kvlt record, but these things do not matter once you push play.  This is an entrancing and epic trip into the blackened nether-regions of the cosmos.  Hop on this wicked spaceship.

Initial State

Speaking of...I can't believe I haven't put this one up yet.  After Antischism broke up, everybody but the bassist moved to Austin, Texas and formed a band that sounded a lot like Antischism but with a darker, heavier and more atmospheric bent.  They only released this one LP, then split up and went in their respective musical directions. These folks have consistently made some of the best and most innovative hardcore punk for the last 2+ decades and I will never stray far from my dark and southern hardcore roots, largely in part to Lyz, Kevin and Scott.  I've listened to this record at least once or twice a month every month for years and years and years.  Thanks ya'll.

Guyana Punch Line

Post-Antischism, Initial State, .fuckingcom and In/Humanity.  Pre-Thank God, Burnt Books, Newgenics and Anakrid.  Hail to Columbia, SC.  Long Live Smashism.

Soglia Del Dolore

I know nothing about this band.  They are from Italy and this 7" is from '85.  The music is catchy and the vocals just sound like some irate man yelling at you.  This rules.

Icons Of Filth

I don't have much to say about Icons Of Filth except that I'll take them over Discharge any day.  RIP Stig.  You get one LP and 2 EPs in the link down below.

Fastbacks - ...And His Orchestra

So great.  Like Joan Jett, The Ramones and Dinosaur Jr. in a blender.

C.F.D.L. - Atrocity Exhibition

This is my favorite record by Crazy Fucked Up Daily Life, among other pseudonyms.  They make such awful, terrible sounds and I can't thank them enough for it.   Next time you're just over it, you know, the boring shows, the fakers, the axe body spray, the "good" bands....just put this on, and feel a little better (or worse).

F - You Are An EP

F were from South Florida, not California and that's why you know the words from "Nervous Breakdown" or "Police Story" way better than the words to "No" or "Spit It Out."  That's pretty much the main difference.  Otherwise, this is just as essential as any other 80's hardcore punk record.  Top notch songs that need to be listened to.

Final Conflict (MN)

There was the Final Conflict from California that put out one great LP and then turned into a crappy mosh-core band, and then there was this Final Conflict from Minneapolis that only put out one 7" (there are a couple demo tracks I've included as well.)  I like this more obscure Final Conflict better.  Give this EP a listen and you will too.  It's right in the same style as other nasty Midwestern groups like Die Kreuzen and Mecht Mensch.  Havoc Rex in Minneapolis recently repressed this, but they've pretty much all been snatched up by now.  You should try and find a copy, but otherwise, here ya go.

Take It Back

I guess this is still in print on a giant "indie" label, but I do not care.  Full disclosure:  I love emo and this band is one of my all time favorites.  Along with Rites of Spring, no one else really comes close to comparing to this sound.  The LP is great but the 6 song EP is one of the best records of the 80's and you need it.  We all need it.  Screw the giant indies.

more GLOOM

It's time for you to get some more GLOOM.  The finest of the crasher crusters.  I gave you the Speed Noise Hardcore Rags EP HERE, so now I'ma give you two more nuclear bombs of total auditory annihilation.: Recomendation of Perdition from 1997 and Mentally Achronistic 2000 from 2000.  BEST/WORST ELECTRICITY.  Shut up and plunge into nightmarish turmoil.

Various - Yotsuva: Japanese Noiz Cruster

Here is a compilation of four more recent Japanese bands: Isterismo, Lastly, Death Dust Extractor, and Zyanose.  Every band takes dark Japanese hardcore to new and even more abrasive levels.  This record is flawless in my opinion and you should take advantage of it, and track down anything else you can find by these bands because I've yet to hear anything from them I don't love.  AAGGGHHH!!!

Syudan Jisatsu - Demon Priest

Here's some true "mysterious guy" punk.  Syudan Jisatsu translates roughly to "mass suicide" and only put out this one EP from '91.   Obviously the whole record is steeped in the traditions of Japanese hardcore, but people seem unsure about who was behind this project, whether they are even Japanese or not.  Some say Sakevi of GISM performed vocals on this, but while they sound incredibly similar, i don't think that's the case.  The stronger opinions out there say that Syudan Jisatsu is comprised of Finnish folks, and some say that it's a solo project by a member of Selfish.  Regardless of origin, this is a really well-done and authentic take on Japanese punk and it's intentional shroud of mystery is an added layer of intrigue.  Get dark and weird.

GLOBSTERS

Adam Brewer is Globsters.  He resides in a tiny town in Kentucky called Hazard and is the town's self-confessed "only punk."  His band is AWESOME and consists of sampled hardcore riffs, noise and god-awfully abrasive vocals.   I've been fortunate enough to see him play a few times and he always leaves the audience in a mixed state of joy/confusion/anger/ecstacy/betrayal/worship.  "Pretty Women" is enough to deflate even the surliest bastard's balloon of self-importance.  Keep on rockin' in the free world, Globsters!  This file is the demo, the Totally Punk EP (which he gave me in person after my Dead Moon cover band played a Halloween years ago), and the newest, Rock N Roll Misery EP.  MUSIC!  kinda.  Watch a short documentary/interview with Adam HERE

Masshysteri - 2nd LP

Heavy hitter, and not quite so rare or lost to time, but it is out of print and all my friends love this band (I do too).  Syrupy sweet and sinfully delicious.  Your norm friends might even dig this album.  Enjoy this fantastic pop record from Sweden.

The Mekons - The Quality Of Mercy Is Not Strnen

Oooh!  Curveball for ya'll.  The Mekons are a post punk band from England, but they were doing their post punk while the OG first wave of punk was still alive and kicking (and selling out hard).  This is their first LP from 1979 and it's catchy, danceable and your friends won't hate it as much as the other crap you make them listen to.  I don't know what the hell "Strnen" is, though.

Vaaska

Vaaska are from Austin, TX and share members with other fantastic bands such as Criaturas and Deskonocidos.  These folks so far have done no wrong and have put Austin's sound in the top tier of world punk, in my humble opinion.  The incarnation of these people known as Vaaska combine Finnish elements and aesthetics with the dark and driving Texas/Mexico approach.  Very killer.  This file has their demo tape and their first LP. Turn it up and jump around.

Pandemonium EPs

It's freaking cold.  Too cold for many words, so the point is Dutch hardcore fast punk 80's the good stuff 2 vinyl records both awesome get into it.

Los Canadians & Chickenhead

CLASSIC Miami sounds!  Ivy's vocals are perhaps the most unique in punk and Erick plays guitar like Greg Ginn should play it these days.  Folks from both bands went on to be in countless others, including Black Rainbow, Miami (the band), Allergic To Bullshit, Hello Shitty People, Jack Palance Band, Hidden Spots and it just goes on and on.  If you don't have this, get it now!

Dezerter

What can I tell you about Dezerter?  They started as high school students from Warsaw, Poland and probably dealt with way more bullshit to be in a punk band than your crappy band did.  Musically, they were tight, inventive and poignant.  Lyrically, well, they had a hard time not getting the electricity pulled on them at shows in Eastern Europe.  They endured, and managed to put out tons of great records and play all over the world.  Great great great band.  This is their first record.

Capitalist Alienation

Holy cow this is some deliciously filthy and fast punk.  Capitalist Alienation were from Montreal and put out this fantastic trainwreck of a record before calling it quits.  The music reminds me of more chaotic, "everything's-about-to-fall-apart" hardcore such as Void or Crucifix, but grosser.  The vocals are just too nasty.  Enjoy!

NEGAZIONE EPs

They're back!  Negazione's untouchable Lo Spirito Continua LP was the first post on this thing, and I think it's high time you got some some excellent 7"s to accompany it.  This file has the Condannati A Morte Nel Vostro Quieto Vivere EP and the Tutti Pazzi EP, both from 1985.  Necessary early Italian hardcore and one of my all time favorite bands.  Get Ye With It.

The Creed

I don't know much about The Creed other than this record, Up Against A Brick Wall, and that they're from Japan.  It's pretty straight forward 3-chord street punk, but with a hardcore toughness to it.  It's rockin and catchy, though I can never make it through the whole record.  Try it out, maybe you can.

look at this terrible album cover.

Descarados

Descarados is a US punk group featuring folks from other excellent bands like Sin Orden and Mugre.  But while those bands are more directly aggressive in their hardcore punk, Descarados has a more Rites Of Spring-y, early emo thing going and I like it a lot.  Tour the Southeast, Descarados!

The Victims (AUS)

This band called The Victims was from Perth, Australia (that's west coast, ya'll) and they recorded not that many songs during the years 1977-79, all of which can be found on this 12".  It's that '77 style rock n roll punk that ya like, kinda reminds me of the Kids or the Dils.  Good stuff.

Wretched / Indigesti

I can't believe I haven't posted this stuff yet!  The best of the best!  WRETCHED are what PUNK sounds like.  Total Destroy.  I've included the In Nome Del Loro Potere...EP, the more metallic La Tua Morte Non Aspetta LP, and the sweetest of cherries...the Wretched/Indigesti split 7"!  INDIGESTI were no slouches either, so you get their tracks too.

Contrazione / Franti

Life gets in the way.  It's for the best.

Here's some cool Italian punk for ya.  I don't know anything about these bands, other than I like their music.  CONTRAZIONE is more straightforward hardcore with some tasty and classic riffs.  FRANTI is really interesting.  They are very experimental and atmospheric in their approach and I can't say I've heard any other bands that sound quite like them.  The two bands did a split LP that costs a couple weeks' pay (if you get paid as little as I do), and it's absolutely worth hearing.  I've split the bands into separate folders and added to Contrazione's folder their stellar Cineocchio! Storia E Memoria record.  Enjoy this fantastic Italian punk history!
