GGGRRREEEGGG SSSAAAGGGEEE

The recent spurt of gloomier, less "punk" music I've posted here is entirely coincidental.  I don't really ever have a plan for what goes on here...I just look through my music and see a record that makes me go "ooh! ooh! that one!" and then it ends up on the page.  But I have to continue this recent dip into murkier, more groovin stuff because I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO share this solo album from Greg Sage.  The Oregonian band that was his claim to fame is maybe my favorite punk band EVER.  If you are not familiar with the band I'm talking about then I recommend getting on that ASAP.  I'd share it here, but I feel like the records are still somewhat in print so I'm wary.   This record, however, is hard to track down and and not cheap once you manage to (repress it please).  It's like Greg Sage's old band doing their songs with a more country rock/americana instrumental setup.  It's not really country, though.  It's just Greg Sage.  Shit's bleak and heavy and menacing and goes down smooooth.

Keep On Keepin On

(I fixed the link! sorry bout that!)

Here's that other band...

DA

Ooohh this is a nice post-punk EP from Chicago's DA.  "Dark Rooms" is the winner by far, a masterfully doomy and gorgeous song, but the more upbeat and off kilter "White Castles" is a keeper as well.

People Pee In Them

Are you freaking kidding me?  Stuck in my head for days and days and daze and dddaaazzzzeeee musick.  THE WORSTBESTELECTRICITY.

Confuse

Here's a heavy hitter for ya'll.  Masters of noise punk, Confuse.  So many bands wish they could pull this sound off, but none do it quite as well as Confuse.  This file is 3 essential records, Nuclear Addicts EP ('84), Contempt for Authority and Take Off The Lie ('85), and Spending Loud Night ('87). Play it loud and jump around.

Absurd

This is a fantastically straight forward punk rager!  Absurd were from Sweden and released only this EP, Blodig Stag, from 1983.  It's one of the more rudimentary punk records I've heard but the songs are so supremely good!  See for yourself!

The Sick

I know nothing about this band aside from the fact that they are Japanese and they are called The Sick.  It's aggressive and anthemic pop-punk and I think it rules.  The guitar almost sounds like a saxophone in one of the songs, it's weird.  3 really good songs by a band I know jack about.  I don't even have a picture or an album cover so I guess I'm going to have to google image search "The Sick".  Enjoy!

Las Otras

I'm back!  Texas was fantastic and everyone was superb.   It was nourishing to see old friends and to make new Tejas and Espana friends.   It's still going to take me a couple days to get reorganized with this page, but for now, here is a band I'm in love with, Las Otras from Barcelona.  You can download their 7" and a couple songs from their upcoming 12" at their bandcamp page.  Las Otras are top tier Spanish punk, a shining star in an overly bright and clustered nightscape.  Enjoy!

been away / Ennui Demo

This thing isn't dead, I've just been busy with real things.  Tomorrow I'm going to Texas for 5 or 6 days and probably won't update this page during that time.  A thousand apologies, and I do appreciate those who actually look at this thing.  I'll be back in a week with new tunes for you.   Until then, check out the band I just joined on drums.  You can download the demo for free and you should, I think it's really good (I'm not on it).  Good tidings to all!
